During this Thanksgiving break, I ran across an old Photoshop user magazine. An article about the HDR effect caught my interest. I went back through some files and used a photo taken at the Heifer Project International.

Shadows.

My daughter learned an interesting fact today about photography and light. I visioned this photo in my head before I ever captured the shot. As soon as I saw the possibility of actually being able to capture it I yelled for Madison and Samuel to hurry, hurry, hurry. They thought this was really neat but Madison is the one who stuck around to do her posing act. Before we were able to take another shot a cloud passed over the sun. She was upset and wanted to know why we couldn't take any more of these types of shots. I then began to explain to her the value of light when it comes to the art of photography. In fact, someone told me one time that "Photography is Light!" Without light there would be no image, but with it, ooh la la, the possibilities are endless! In my opinion, the art of photography has lent itself to allowing so much more where light is concerned, allowing many types of light to be used. Shooting into the sun is a very good example. I love the sunlight and it can be manipulated in many ways. For this photo we just allowed the sun to make our shadow, posed in an interesting way, tweaked it a mite in PS and there you have it.

Madison's B-Day, she's 11 years old!

Okay, so I said a birthday party was just too much for me with all that I have going on and also planning one of our biggest vacation trips ever. School was out for three days for a teachers conference and I wanted to take one of the days and attempt to capture some nice photos of my children and also take Madison shopping and out to eat. We started our day with a traditional portrait session, in which Samuel was.... well... about to get his neck wrung! In the end I think these turned out pretty nice and hope to get a large portrait to frame for my home, which is rare. I know what you are thinking, no photos in the photographers home!c Well yes and neither does the lawn stay consistently maintained and I have threatened my husband that I was going to fire the lawn company we are using, which means I'd fire my own husband! Not happening! Oh well back to the beginning. So after the "portrait" session the kids are thirsty and suffering from malnutrition (as always!). Egg rolls and fried rice was all we could three agree on so we grabbed some to go and drove over to Panera Bread and ate out on their patio. Little did the kiddos know that lurking under the table was my camera. I still had BIG plans, BIG plans! The adventure was quite interesting and as you can see I have two normal/abnormal children. We made our way into the Belk store and Madison informed me that she wanted UGG boots for her B'Day! Yea right! Yea RIGHT! I blind folded her and sent her scrambling back out the door empty handed which meant my credit card was still safely snuggled just where it was prior to this grand adventure. I raced all the way to The Children's Place in hopes that they had UGG look alikes. Sure enough, these little babies, all cute and pink, erased all her memories of her wants for UGG boots. I was really surprised at Samuel as he went about the store and chose himself an outfit too. You see, these kids don't question, they just load the buggy up. I'm lookin at them like..... and then they run off and I unload the buggy and check out as fast as I can. They deal with it later. Our last stop was a Chick-fil-A Oreos and Cream milk shake. If you haven't tried one I urge you to stop what you're doing and go see for yourself.

Pioneer Woman is comin to town!

Oh boy, Little Rock, here she comes.  Grab your cowboy hats and don your boots, The Pioneer Woman is comin to town. Rumor is, she's travelin in an old fashioned horse and buggy so as to stir the crowd and sell a gazillion cook books. I'll bet the bright lights of Little Rock is sure to dazzle them and give 'em a taste of what livin is like. So we're countin down the days and can't wait to see her and her kiddos in real time. Three years ago we took our family vacation to San Diego, California. There were so many things to do and not near enough time. One thing that we do love doing is going to the zoo. In fact we took the kids yesterday for about 2 hours and it was heavenly. The weather was perfect and the animals were moving about. Going to the zoo brought back memories of our trip to the San Diego Zoo so I came home and looked up some photos. This is one that I took of the Panda Bears. San Diego Zoo has a large Panda Bear exhibit in which lots of information was shared with the crowd.

Getting ready for Fall

Spent yesterday afternoon at the Clinton Library taking some fall photos along with some nature shots. Some of these shots are from last year at Cobblestone and Vine. I love that store and captured a lot of good images. Will post more later.
